Role Overview
As a journalist in the Explained section, you will:
Research and write explanatory articles on current affairs, public policy, legal and constitutional issues, international events and science & technology topics.
Provide analytical context and interpretation behind news events and policy developments.
Collaborate with editors to identify high-impact topics of public interest.
Ensure factual accuracy, clarity, and editorial quality in all published pieces.
Use data and credible primary sources to strengthen analysis and narrative.
This role blends reporting with explanatory writing — demanding strong analytical insight, clarity of expression, and editorial discipline.
Requirements
Strong curiosity, analytical mindset and ability to break down complex issues for broad audiences.
Excellent command of written English, with clear, precise, engaging writing.
Background in law, economics, political science, international relations, science/technology, journalism or related fields preferred.
Ability to research, interpret data, and simplify complex ideas effectively.
Prior editorial or research experience is preferred; outstanding fresh graduates with strong writing samples may also be considered.
Journalism roles typically value an ability to distill facts, ensure accuracy, and convey insights — skills reflected in strong explanatory writing and research ability.
